Job summary

Antech Diagnostics in Fountain Valley, CA, seeks a Grossing Laboratory Technician I to prepare, trim, and process tissue specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist. This night shift role runs Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00pm to 7:30am.

Candidates should have a high school diploma (Bachelor's preferred in Life Sciences), strong attention to detail, and solid laboratory skills. The position offers competitive pay around $22.56/hour, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities to grow

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Meet minimum production standards for department.
  • Identify and trim submitted tissues per SOP with quality.
  • Produce accurate grossing notes with code descriptions for Pathologist.
  • Communicate with Pathologists and Lab staff via email.
  • Identify problems and special handling cases.

Work Shift:Tuesday - Saturday 11:00pm-7:30am

The Target Pay for this position is $22.56 an hour. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Job Purpose/Overview

The Grossing Laboratory Technician I prepares, trims, and processes tissue specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function.   • Meet minimum production standards for department
  • Properlyidentify, orient, ink, and trimsubmittedtissues per SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) andrelated protocols whileensuring the utmostquality
  • Produceaccurateand legible grossing notes with code description that provide the Pathologist with a clear understanding of the sections taken
  • Communicate with and respond to Pathologists, transcription, and Lab Coordinator emailcommunications
  • Identifyproblemsand special handling cases
  • Trim tissue for specific re-gross requests when requestedin a timelymanner
  • Assistwith daily,weekly,and monthly maintenance ofvarious machines and equipment
  • Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results
  • Reportany technical/QC problems to their lead tech or supervisor
  • Crosstrainand develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
  • Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized workarea. Restocks supplies as needed
  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience
  • Performs other duties asassigned

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's degree in science, Biologyor otherLife Sciences strongly preferred
  • Coursework in anatomy / physiologyrequired.

  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up,running,and reading lab tests andoperatinglab instruments.
  • Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical and laboratoryterminologyand Histology procedures and equipment.
  • Attention todetailand organized with ability to multi-task in afar-pacedenvironment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of ateam
  • Effective communication skills and ability to exchangeaccurateinformation.
  • Proficiencyin the English language which allows for participation in team meetings,accurateentry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions.
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Utilizepersonal computer skills, including fast andaccuratetyping, to input data efficiently

Working Conditions

  • Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours
  • Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch
  • Required to lift, move, and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • The ability to observe details at close range
  • Extended hours may be needed
  • Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE
  • Work under close to moderate supervision
  • Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
