This position is responsible for enrolling & completing the Level 1 training course provided by Petsense, “Paragon,” in preparation for a career in grooming and/or bathing.

Paragon is a virtual distance learning program where students are guided through a 15-week training designed to educate on bathing, grooming, safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling, dog anatomy, and physiology. Training involves hands-on practice, book work, online exams, videos, and practical photo submissions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Team Member, you should be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented. Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
• Working scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Supporting selling initiatives by thanking customers, engaging with pets and owners, advising on products/services, and creating memorable experiences.
• Groom Technicians in Training will learn and perform duties such as:
• Completing the Paragon Level 1 training within five weeks.
• Safe pet handling, bathing, drying, brushing, combing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and preparatory trimming.
• Basic clipping and finishing techniques, customer service, professionalism, equipment handling, and safety protocols.
• Animal health inspection, sanitization, record keeping, and operating computer systems.
• Assisting with store recovery and caring for live animals.

Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications

Experience: Comfortable working with dogs and cats, demonstrating patience and compassion. Must provide own grooming tools or be willing to purchase them.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write, and count accurately.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency with grooming tools and equipment.
• Effective communication skills.
• Compassionate animal handling and attention to detail.
• Basic computer skills and ability to complete documentation accurately.

Working Conditions

• Indoor environment with moderate noise, exposure to grooming instruments, pet waste, and wet conditions.
• Work shifts typically range from 4 to over 8 hours, involving movement and physical activity.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move and transfer animals and equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Stand for extended periods, perform grooming tasks, and operate equipment safely.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, and squatting.
