Job summary

Redner's Markets Elkton is seeking a Grocery Department Supervisor to direct and manage all facets of the grocery department to maximize sales, productivity and profits.

You will supervise staff, ensure proper stock, pricing and billing, oversee the 3rd shift, and work with other departments to maintain store presentation. Requires at least 3 years in supermarkets, strong communication, and solid numerical skills; Sunday premium applies.

Qualifications

  • High school education required.
  • At least three years experience in the supermarket industry.
  • Excellent oral and written communication for customers, employees and vendors.
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, margins, percentages and ratios.
  • Ability to verify vendor invoices and complete inventory and receiving reports.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage all facets of the grocery department to maximize sales, productivity and profits.
  • Supervise and train grocery staff to meet department needs and maintain good employee relations.
  • Ensure proper ordering, stocking and in-code positioning of merchandise.
  • Maintain accurate billing and pricing of incoming products.
  • Oversee 3rd shift operations and productivity of all 3rd shift associates.
  • Direct store policies, procedures and appearance to reflect a clean, well-stocked shop.
  • Coordinate with other departments to keep operations running smoothly.

REPORTS TO: Store Director and Assistant Store Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt – 40 hours

Compensation:

  • $22 - $25 per hour
  • $1 per hour Sunday premium
  • Year-end bonus
Job Summary

To direct and manage all facets of the grocery department in a manner designed to obtain maximum sales, productivity, and profits.

Essential Job Functions
  • Achieve necessary sales and profit goals as projected.
  • Supervise and train all grocery department personnel to perform assignments according to department needs, while maintaining effective employee relations.
  • Assure proper ordering and allocation of merchandise to maintain an in-stock and in-code position.
  • Ensure accurate billing and pricing of all incoming products.
  • Become knowledgeable of and review management reports related to assistant store director’s job function.
  • Submit required orders/grocery surveys to office on schedule.
  • Order necessary supplies for department on a regular basis.
  • Take care of damaged and distressed merchandise according to policy.
  • Help maintain proper stock levels and present the store in a way that gives an image of a clean, neat and well-stocked shop.
  • Assist other departments to keep them operating efficiently.
  • Responsible for maintenance and security within the grocery department.
  • Greet all customers to our store and be observant.
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance according to the company’s dress code policy.
  • Directly oversee the entire 3rd shift operation including the productivity of all 3rd shift associates.
  • Calculate piece counts for all clerks as a productivity measure.
  • Follow and enforce all company policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook.
Supplemental Job Functions
  • Direct and monitor entire store operation in the absence of Store Director and Assistant Store Director approximately fifteen percent (15%) to twenty percent (20%) of the scheduled shift.
  • Maintain a file for weekly sales plans (records quantities sold). Recap and advise store manager of seasonal merchandise sold.
  • Work on the 3rd shift as needed.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Ability Required
  • High school education required.
  • Should have at least three years experience working in the supermarket industry.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills for dealing with customers, employees and vendors.
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, proportions, ratios, volume to apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Ability to verify vendor invoices, counts, and to complete required accounting reports including inventory and receiving.
