Responsibilities
- Essential Job Functions:
- Grocery Clerk helps customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
- Informs customers of food specials and recommends grocery items to ensure they get the products they want and need.
- Checks product quality to ensure freshness, reviews "sell by" dates, and takes appropriate action.
- Provides customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products they have ordered.
- Recommends grocery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
- Labels, stocks, and inventories department merchandise.
- Reports product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Stays current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
- Adheres to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Ensures proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept.
- Gains and maintains knowledge of products sold within the department and responds to questions and makes suggestions about products.
- Creates an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and store.
- Reinforces safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions, notifying store management.
- Practices preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate personnel of repairs.
- Notifies management of customer or employee accidents.
- Works cooperatively in high-paced and sometimes stressful environments.
- Manages conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
- Acts with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Follows directions and seeks assistance when necessary to resolve issues.
- Provides support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
