Grocery Clerk Responsibilities

1. Inform customers of food specials and recommend grocery items to ensure they get what they want and need.
2. Check product quality for freshness, review "sell by" dates, and take appropriate action.
3. Provide customers with ordered grocery products, both fresh and non-perishable.
4. Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
5. Report discrepancies in product ordering/shipping to the department manager.
6. Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
7. Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
8. Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers, and keep temperature logs.
9. Gain knowledge of products sold within the department to respond to questions and make suggestions.
10. Create a welcoming environment for customers, making them feel valued and appreciated.
11. Reinforce safety programs by following procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
12. Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting repairs.
13. Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
14. Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
15. Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational manner.
16. Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
17. Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues.
18. Support and assist minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
19. Perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
