Job summary

Food Lion seeks a Grocery Department Manager in Henderson, NC to lead the department, hire and train associates, and drive store performance in line with Food Lion's strategy.

You will manage labor, coach staff, ensure excellent customer service, and maintain safety, sanitation and department appearance while achieving budgeted results. This role requires strong leadership and hands-on supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to lead and direct others.
• Must be able to meet physical requirements and stay compliant with safety standards.
• Experience with inventory management or retail operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Grocery Department, including hiring, training and developing department associates.
• Supervise the performance of all duties and responsibilities of department associates and provides ongoing performance management, training and conducts timely formal performance appraisals for direct reports.
• Daily management of labor and coaching of associates to achieve productivity expectations.
• Provide leadership and motivation within the store to promote a culture reflective of our Guiding Principles, Core Values, Vision and Strategy.
• Support the achievement of budgeted financial and operating results.
• Smile and maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with primary emphasis on fast, easy, flexible and friendly customer service.
• Role model outstanding, friendly customer service and use skills and knowledge of department products to offer solutions that meet or exceed customers' expectations.
• Control store expenses through proper ordering, care for supplies and equipment.
• Understand and use company tools such as financial reports, scheduling, inventory systems and business information systems.
• Perform duties to ensure department appearance, safety, sanitation are maintained.
• Ensure Grocery Department schedules provide extraordinary customer service at all times.
• Understand scheduling, sales, wage percent, interviewing, hiring and training processes.
• Observe and correct unsafe conditions; report accidents per procedures.
• Monitor shrink and assist with inventory control.
• Assist with physical inventory bi-annually.
• Ensure advertising and signage are properly utilized.
• Adhere to all policies, guidelines and security standards.
• Complete CBT, Training Packet and Training Aid courses.
• Recognize accomplishments and provide constructive coaching as needed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
