Job summary

Asys Technology Group is seeking a Grinder Operator to set up and run centerless grinders for fiberglass composite parts following blueprints. You will monitor the process, adjust settings, inspect parts, and maintain records to ensure quality and safety.

This 2nd shift role emphasizes precision, efficiency, and collaboration with supervision, QC, and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in machining preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience operating centerless grinding machines is preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with quality measurement tools and ISO 9001 or similar quality systems.

Description

The Grinder Operator is responsible for daily setup and operation of centerless grinding machines to grind external or internal cylindrical or tapered surfaces of fiberglass composite workpieces to blueprint specifications. The associate in this role ensures precision, quality, and adherence to safety standards throughout the manufacturing process.

Requirements
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate centerless grinding machines (through-feed, in-feed, automatic feed, or end-feed) to produce parts to exact tolerances.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job orders to determine part specifications.
  • Monitor the grinding process and adjust machine settings to ensure optimal performance and part quality.
  • Inspect finished parts using measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning to ensure equipment longevity and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records and complete required documentation.
  • Collaborate with production supervision, quality control, and engineering teams to resolve issues and implement improvements.
  • Monitor and achieve established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as production output, quality standards, efficiency, and safety compliance, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with company goals.
  • Keep work area clean and organized to prevent safety hazards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education & Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSE).
  • Technical certification in machining or manufacturing processes preferred.
Knowledge & Experience
  • 2+ years of experience operating centerless grinding machines in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong knowledge of precision measuring instruments and quality inspection techniques.
Skills & Abilities
  • Good mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently required to reach and use hands and arms continuously.

Hours / Shifts:

This is a 2nd shift position.

  • 1st Shift: Monday through Friday 7:00am – 3:00pm EST
  • 2nd Shift: Monday through Friday 3:00pm – 11:00pm EST
  • 3rd Shift: Sunday through Friday 11:00pm – 7:00am EST
