Job summary

PDS Tech / Howmet is seeking a detail-oriented Grinder II for a contract-to-hire position. You will operate large swing grinders and small pneumatic/electric hand grinders to condition metal components, remove surface defects, blend welds, and polish workpieces prior to downstream finishing operations.

This role emphasizes precision, safety, and a clean workspace, with on-site interview requirements and adherence to all site procedures and standards.

Qualifications

• Education: No high school diploma or GED required.
• Technical knowledge of abrasives, metal conditions and surface finishing.
• Experience operating swing grinders, angle grinders, die grinders or pneumatic hand tools.
• Strong tactile/visual inspection skills to catch surface flaws.
• Ability to handle heavy grinding machinery and stand for full shifts.

Responsibilities

• Defect inspection and removal: locate and remove defects, burrs, and excess weld material.
• Equipment operation: safely run large swing grinders and portable hand grinders.
• Abrasive selection & setup: choose belts/wheels/disks; attach tooling.
• Surface finishing & polishing: achieve uniform, unmarred finishes.
• Tool maintenance: replace worn abrasive disks, wheels, belts.
• Safety & housekeeping: maintain clean, organized workstation; follow site rules.

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Grinder II for a contract-to-hire position with PDS Tech / Howmet. In this role, you will operate large swing grinders and small pneumatic/electric hand grinders to condition metal components, remove surface defects, blend welds, and polish workpieces prior to downstream finishing operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Defect Inspection & Removal: Inspect workpieces visually and tactilely (feeling surfaces) to locate and remove defects, sharp edges, scratches, laminated metal, burrs, and excess weld material.

• Equipment Operation: Safely operate large swing grinders and portable hand grinders to smooth and condition metal parts according to specifications.

• Abrasive Selection & Setup: Select proper grades of abrasive belts, wheels, or disks based on job specifications, material condition, and abrasive knowledge; attach and secure tooling to grinders.

• Surface Finishing & Polishing: Polish ground areas using finer abrasives to produce a uniform, smooth, and unmarred surface finish.

• Tool Maintenance: Routinely inspect and replace worn abrasive disks, grinding wheels, and sanding belts to maintain machining efficiency and safety.

• Safety & Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized workstation and adhere strictly to all site safety procedures and company policies.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of abrasives, metal conditions, and surface finishing techniques.

• Tool Proficiency: Experience operating swing grinders, angle grinders, die grinders, or pneumatic hand tools.

• Physical & Quality Standards: Strong tactile/visual inspection skills to catch surface flaws; physical ability to handle heavy grinding machinery and standing for full shifts.

• Pre-Employment Requirements: Must successfully complete 1 on-site interview and a Howmet-initiated physical assessment.

Pay Details:

$21.00 per hour
