Job summary

Arnold Magnetic Technologies is seeking a grinder operator to finish products to design specifications in a manufacturing environment in Illinois. You will set up and operate finish grinding machines, selecting speeds, feeds, and wheels to achieve optimum results.

The role requires basic math, familiarity with drawings and precision measuring instruments, and the ability to read work orders and maintain production records. Safety and quality standards are emphasized in this manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • High School degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from a certified college.
  • Knowledge of grinding machines and tools.
  • 6-12 months experience grinding is preferred
  • Basic mathematical skills in arithmetic, algebra, and their applications.
  • Familiar with drawings and precision measuring instruments.
  • Active listener who can give full attention to trainer, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate.
  • Capacity for learning; understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to recognize when there is an issue with machinery and identify that something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to understanding information in a work-related document.

Responsibilities

  • Select speeds and feeds, according to material, to achieve optimum results.
  • Select grinding wheels within a limited range for operation.
  • Dress wheels.
  • Check dimensions and tolerances.
  • Make adjustments to maintain standards.
  • Detect faulty operation or defective materials, correct and report to the supervisor.
  • Assists in the dismantle of machines and removes parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  • Keep machines clean and make/assist in making machine repairs.
  • Maintain job order and production records.
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • May be exposed to industrial oils, toner, coolants, solvents, lubricants, adhesive and other chemicals. NOTE: All safety precautions will be used.
  • Could work in areas with excessive noise
  • Exposure to fumes
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Physical agility to move quickly, climb ladders
  • Able to twist and bend while moving cores
