Job summary

Moog is seeking a Grind Machinist II for the 2nd shift in Buffalo, NY. You will produce high-precision components for critical aerospace/defense programs, reading blueprints, setting up equipment, and maintaining tight tolerances in a demanding environment.

You will use micrometers, calipers, and dial bore gauges, perform wheel dressing, and inspect parts to ensure quality. Eligibility for FAA safety program is required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • At least 3 years of Grind Machinist experience.
  • Proficiency with measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, dial bore gauges).
  • Ability to read blueprints and work instructions.
  • Ability to hold tight tolerances (±0.001 to 0.0005).
  • FAA Safety Sensitive Work program participation is required.

Responsibilities

  • Work from blueprints, operation sheets, and verbal instructions.
  • Grind a wide variety of complex parts with tight tolerances and fine finishes.
  • Set up, chuck and align parts of irregular shapes; select wheels and determine speeds/feeds.
  • Dress grinding wheels for various forms and contours.
  • Inspect all work using air gauges, diatest, and profilometers; detect defects.
  • Participate in planning and troubleshooting within the cell.

Our success is built on innovation, collaboration, and the expertise of skilled machinists who take pride in delivering precision components that perform in mission-critical environments.As a machinist within our Military Aircraft Group, you will machine some of the most challenging parts which will be used on major production programs such as F-35, MQ-25, and FLRAA.Currently, we are seeking a skilled Grind Machinist who takes pride in precision craftsmanship and wants to see their work contribute to some of the world's most advanced programs. In this role, you'll manufacture complex, high-precision components used in flight-critical systems where quality, reliability, and performance are non-negotiable.To be considered for this role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:* High School diploma or GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.* At least 3 years of experience as a Grind Machinist* Proficiency using various measuring equipment, including but not limited to, Micrometers, Calipers, and Dial Bore Gauges.* Competency in reading and interpreting blueprints and written work instructions.* Ability to select grinding wheels, properly dress the wheel and run production parts according to drawing requirements.* Demonstrated ability to hold tight tolerances, typically .001 +/- .0005, associated with the machining of precision parts (GD&T).* In accordance with strict Federal Aviation Agency (F.A.A.) regulations regarding Safety Sensitive Work (S.S.W.), employee enrollment & participation in the company’s "F.A.A. Drug & Alcohol Program" is a requirement for this position.As a Grind Machinist II, you will:* Work from blueprints, operation sheets and/or verbal instructions.* Grind a wide variety of complex parts having either intricate recessing, interim grooving, numerous steps, tapers, unusual contours, to extremely close tolerances and/or a high degree of finish on two or more of the following type grinders: cylindrical, internal, or surface.* Perform your own set-ups, including chucking and aligning of parts having irregular shapes, selecting proper wheels, speeds, feeds, and operating sequence.* Dress wheels for form, taper, steps, straight and unusual forms.* Perform inspection of all work performed using air gages, diatest, V-blocks, profilometers angle plates, and electronic gauging equipment.
