Job summary

Moog Inc. is seeking a skilled Grind Machinist II for 2nd/3rd shifts onsite in Buffalo, NY to machine precision components for flight-critical programs, including F-35 and MQ-25. You will read blueprints, set up machines, dress wheels, inspect parts, and maintain tight tolerances while following FAA safety requirements and shift differential.

In this role you will perform setups, inspect parts with various gauges, and collaborate with the team to ensure quality and on-time production.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred; otherwise ability to understand instructions in English.
  • At least 3 years of precision machinist experience, preferably as a Grind Machinist.
  • Proficiency with measuring equipment including Micrometers, Calipers and Dial Bore Gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and written work instructions.
  • Ability to select grinding wheels, dress wheels and run production parts per drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold tight tolerances, typically .001 +/- .0005 (GD&T).
  • FAA Drug & Alcohol Program enrollment is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Work from blueprints, operation sheets and verbal instructions.
  • Grind a wide variety of complex parts with tight tolerances on multiple grinders.
  • Perform setups, including chucking and aligning irregular parts and selecting wheels.
  • Dress wheels for form, taper, steps and unusual forms.
  • Inspect work with air gauges, diatest, blocks and profilometers; detect defects and deviations.
  • Participate in planning and problem solving within the Cell.

As a machinist within our Military Aircraft Group, you will machine some of the most challenging parts which will be used on major production programs such as F-35, MQ-25, and FLRAA.

Currently, we are seeking a skilled Grind Machinist who takes pride in precision craftsmanship and wants to see their work contribute to some of the world's most advanced programs. In this role, you'll manufacture complex, high-precision components used in flight-critical systems where quality, reliability, and performance are non-negotiable.

This position is eligible for a $3,500 sign-on bonus. To qualify, candidates must submit their application between July 20, 2026, and November 30, 2026, and is subject to the terms of the bonus agreement.
To be considered for this role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:
  • High School diploma or GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a precision machinist, preferably as a Grind Machinist
  • Proficiency using various measuring equipment, including but not limited to, Micrometers, Calipers, and Dial Bore Gauges.
  • Competency in reading and interpreting blueprints and written work instructions.
  • Ability to select grinding wheels, properly dress the wheel and run production parts according to drawing requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold tight tolerances, typically .001 +/- .0005, associated with the machining of precision parts (GD&T).
  • In accordance with strict Federal Aviation Agency (F.A.A.) regulations regarding Safety Sensitive Work (S.S.W.), employee enrollment & participation in the company’s "F.A.A. Drug & Alcohol Program" is a requirement for this position.
As a Grind Machinist II, You Will
  • Work from blueprints, operation sheets and/or verbal instructions.
  • Grind a wide variety of complex parts having either intricate recessing, interim grooving, numerous steps, tapers, unusual contours, to extremely close tolerances and/or a high degree of finish on two or more of the following type grinders: cylindrical, internal, or surface.
  • Perform your own set-ups, including chucking and aligning of parts having irregular shapes, selecting proper wheels, speeds, feeds, and operating sequence.
  • Dress wheels for form, taper, steps, straight and unusual forms.
  • Perform inspection of all work performed using air gages, diatest, V-blocks, profilometers angle plates, and electronic gauging equipment. Detecting unusual conditions, defective materials, and deviate parts; and recognizing errors in operation sheets.
  • Participate in the planning of work within the Cell and help solve problems occurring within the Cell.

Salary Range Transparency

Buffalo, NY $28.00–$37.00 Hourly
