Job summary

Emerald AI is building Grid Services to connect Emerald Conductor with the electric grid. As a Staff Engineer, you will design software for grid participation, forecast demand, and dispatch data-center resources through utilities and ISOs/RTOs.

You will own architecture, drive major technical decisions, and work with control, platform, and AI teams to translate grid-side decisions into real-world actions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building production systems in Python.
• Experience designing and operating reliable, distributed software systems with high availability.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Experience building data pipelines and working with large-scale operational datasets.
• Familiarity with SQL and modern data engineering practices.
• Experience in electric utilities, ISOs/RTOs, wholesale electricity markets, or adjacent energy systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and build software integrations with ISOs/RTOs, utilities, aggregators, and demand response platforms.
• Develop optimization and control algorithms for dispatch of data center resources in response to grid signals.
• Build forecasting models for electricity demand, data center load, prices, and grid conditions.
• Translate market rules into reliable production software including M&V, baselines, settlement, and compliance.
• Build reliable data pipelines ingesting and processing real-time operational and market data.
