Job summary

AES Ohio is seeking a Distribution Operator to monitor and control the company’s distribution resources, ensuring safety, reliability and continuous power supply. The role executes real-time switching, outage response and coordination with field crews.

The position requires a technical degree or strong related experience, with a focus on electrical theory, grid operations, and strict adherence to PUCO and AES safety standards. Shift work is required in a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline preferred but not required; Associate’s degree with math/electrical aptitude accepted.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to understand complex instructions and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing tools; able to operate grid operations systems.

Responsibilities

• Implements real-time actions, including shedding firm load under supervision.
• Directs safety and reliability actions for distribution grid; coordinates field crews and equipment.
• Directs switching and tagging to achieve LOTO isolation on mainline distribution equipment.
• Responds to distribution disturbances to ensure continuous electricity supply.
• Communicates status of abnormal system conditions to coworkers and management.
• Develops and maintains tools and models for outage planning and contingency analysis.
• Ensures procedures for transfer of operations to Back-up Control Center are known and usable.
