Job summary

FirstEnergy seeks a Planning & Protection Engineer to ensure reliability of West Virginia’s distribution system. You will analyze data, propose improvements, and support regulatory reporting from the Mon Power HQ in Fairmont, with occasional travel across WV.

This onsite role emphasizes safety, collaboration, and long-range infrastructure planning. The engineer will develop budgets, support storms, and coordinate with Distribution Control Center to maintain safe, efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited institution is required.
• PE license or advanced degree plus ABET-equivalent background is acceptable.
• 0–5 engineering work experience required; FE exams a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assess and improve distribution system reliability across WV Operating Areas.
• Develop and maintain long-range plans (LTIIP) and budgets for reliability projects.
• Prepare and present reliability performance and regulatory reports.
