Job summary

NPAworldwide is seeking a seasoned Grid Code Engineer in Houston to support electrical engineering activities across the sales, construction and service stages of wind power projects.

You will work on grid code compliance, pre-design engineering, plant controls and commissioning support, coordinating with customers, utilities and global teams to deliver compliant, efficient solutions.

Qualifications

  • Requires strong knowledge of grid integration and North American compliance standards.
  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering; master's or PE license is advantageous.
  • Experience with wind power plant controls and interconnection requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Review contracts, interconnection requirements, and technical risks in proposals.
  • Prepare standard contract templates and technical presentations.
  • Support technical bid engineers with value engineering and site-specific solutions.
  • Review electrical studies and recommend measures for compliance and performance.
  • Engage with system operators on grid codes and model usage.
  • Develop design specifications for plant controllers and related systems.

Salary: US$145-165K plus 401(k) plus 10% bonus and extensive benefits package About the Opportunity

Our client is a global renewable energy business delivering grid integration and plant control solutions for wind power projects across the US and Canada.

They are seeking an experienced Grid Code Engineer to support electrical engineering activities throughout the sales, construction and service stages of projects. The role combines grid code compliance, technical sales support, electrical pre-design, plant control engineering and commissioning support.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Reviewing customer contracts, Balance of Plant documentation and utility interconnection requirements, identifying technical risks and tender deviations
  • Preparing standard contract templates, formal responses to customer enquiries and technical presentations
  • Supporting Technical Bid Engineers with value engineering, non-standard product requests and site-specific solutions
  • Reviewing customer electrical studies and recommending measures to improve compliance and project performance
  • Promoting standardised electrical solutions and training sales teams on product capabilities and developments
  • Monitoring, interpreting and communicating emerging grid codes and market requirements
  • Supporting global product teams in developing functionality that meets current and future customer and regulatory needs
  • Engaging with System Operators on model use, system integration and grid compliance matters
  • Representing the business in grid code working groups, industry forums and technical committees
  • Reviewing North American wind power plant designs for grid code compliance
  • Initiating and reviewing engineering pre-design studies, compiling site, customer and grid requirements
  • Using study findings to help customers optimise project designs and identify risks early
  • Preparing Functional Design Specifications for Power Plant Controllers, yaw power backup systems and other specialist control
solutions

  • Developing grid compliance test plans and providing support during testing and commissioning
  • Supporting grid connection approvals and preparing site-specific turbine and controller settings
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers
Qualifications

Key Requirements

You will be an experienced electrical power or control systems engineer with strong knowledge of grid integration, utility interconnection requirements and North American compliance standards.

You Will Bring

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, focused on power or control systems; a Masters degree or Professional Engineer licence would be advantageous
  • At least 7 years experience in electrical power, power systems or control systems engineering
  • Strong experience solving complex power and control system problems
  • Knowledge of grid integration, utility interconnection requirements and wind power plant controls
  • Ability to interpret grid codes and assess plant designs and electrical studies for compliance and optimisation
  • Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and international standards including IEC, IEEE and UL
  • Wind turbine or wind power plant implementation, operation, system standards or service experience preferred
  • Exposure to PSCAD, TSAT, E-TRAN or PSS/E would be advantageous
  • Strong customer-facing, presentation and technical communication skills
  • Confident working across cultures, functions and time zones within a global organisation
  • Highly organised, self-motivated and able to manage competing deadlines with limited supervision
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, with familiarity with CAD tools, SAP and related engineering software
