Job description

$145,000 - $165,000 plus 10% bonus, 401(k), and full benefits
Houston, TX - Hybrid (3 days per week onsite)

The Opportunity

You'll shape how wind power plants connect to the grid across the US and Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of grid code compliance, control system engineering, and technical sales support for a global renewable energy business delivering grid integration and plant control solutions. You'll review customer electrical studies, interpret emerging grid codes, and directly influence how power plant controllers and yaw backup systems are designed for compliance.

You won't just check boxes against a standard. You'll represent the business in grid code working groups and industry forums, engage directly with System Operators on system integration, and help global product teams build functionality that meets tomorrow's regulatory requirements.

Why You'll Love This Role

You'll own technical decisions across the full project lifecycle, from initial contract review through commissioning support.

Specific work you'll be trusted with:

Preparing Functional Design Specifications for Power Plant Controllers and specialist control solutions. Initiating engineering pre-design studies and using findings to help customers optimize project designs before problems become expensive. Developing grid compliance test plans and supporting testing and commissioning in the field. Reviewing North American wind power plant designs for grid code compliance and recommending performance improvements.

You'll also mentor other engineers and represent the company externally with utilities, System Operators, and industry committees, real technical visibility, not just internal work.

Compensation reflects the seniority of the role: $145K-$165K base, a 10% bonus, 401(k), and an extensive benefits package.

What Your Week Looks Like

Some weeks you're deep in an electrical study, reviewing a customer's Balance of Plant documentation and utility interconnection requirements to flag technical risks before they become contract disputes.

Other weeks put you in front of customers: presenting technical solutions, supporting Technical Bid Engineers on value engineering, or training sales teams on product capabilities.

You'll track emerging grid codes and market requirements across North America, feed that intelligence back to global product teams, and translate it into site-specific turbine and controller settings for grid connection approvals.

What We're Looking For

Education and experience:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power or control systems. A Master's degree or PE license is a plus. At least 7 years of experience in electrical power, power systems, or control systems engineering.

Technical knowledge:

Strong background solving complex power and control system problems. Knowledge of grid integration, utility interconnection requirements, and wind power plant controls. Ability to interpret grid codes and assess plant designs and electrical studies for compliance. Familiarity with NERC reliability standards and IEC, IEEE, and UL standards. Wind turbine or wind power plant implementation, operation, or service experience preferred. Exposure to PSCAD, TSAT, E-TRAN, or PSS/E is a plus.

Working style:

Strong customer-facing and technical presentation skills. Comfortable working across cultures, functions, and time zones in a global organization. Highly organized and self-motivated, able to manage competing deadlines with limited supervision. Proficient in Microsoft Office, with familiarity with CAD tools and SAP.

Why Candidates Say Yes

This role offers technical influence beyond the typical engineering seat, direct engagement with utilities and System Operators, a voice in grid code working groups, and input into global product development. For an engineer who wants their compliance work to actually shape how projects get designed rather than just reviewed after the fact, this is a rare combination.
