Job summary

Kirkwood Community College's Center for Hospitality Excellence is seeking a trainer to welcome guests, seat them, and supervise student learning across The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, The Kirkwood Center for Hospitality Arts and Continuing Education.

The trainer will coordinate with kitchen and service staff, answer reservations, and ensure dining details meet guest expectations while maintaining a welcoming, inclusive environment and professional appearance.

Qualifications

  • Must be 16 years old.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and customer service skills.
  • Preference given to candidates with a post high school degree.
  • Preference given to those with a minimum of two years full-time experience in a related hospitality setting or equivalent education and related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests and seat them at tables or in waiting areas, providing menus and specials.
  • Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs.
  • Answer all incoming calls, take reservations and In-Room dining orders, relay information to staff.
  • Maintain contact with kitchen, management, serving staff and customers to ensure dining details are handled correctly and concerns addressed.
  • Be versed with all menus to answer questions guests may have.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY

Welcomes patrons, seats them at tables, and helps to ensure the quality of facilities and service. This position serves as a trainer. Trainers are responsible for supervising the learning experiences of students in all areas of The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, The Kirkwood Center for Hospitality Arts and The Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Greet guests and seat them at tables or in waiting areas providing them with menus/specials.
  • Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs.
  • Answer all incoming calls taking reservations, messages and In-Room dining orders and relaying information to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain contact with kitchen staff, management, serving staff, and customers to ensure that dining details are handled properly and customers' concerns are addressed.
  • Versed with all menus to be able to answer any questions guests may have.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

Position involves working in a business setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, viewing equipment and supplies and other types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) reaching, pulling, grasping and pushing. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and listening.
