• Ensure private parties are properly staffed and organized.
• Verify with kitchen that menu items are available.
• Maintain communication with servers, management, and kitchen to synchronize timing and flow.
• Greet guests as they leave and ensure a pleasant experience.
• Confirm overall satisfaction and involve a manager if issues arise.
• Act as host/hostess to provide first and last impression for guests.

POSITION PROFILE

Greet and seat all guests and ensure a quality dining experience. Supervise and coordinate the activities of the dining room in a restaurant.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greet guests, escort them to their table, pull chair out for the guest, and present menus.
• Ensure entry doors are clean, free of debris and welcoming.
• Make sure all menus are wiped down, free of spots or stains, and complete with any special food and beverage items.
• Inform servers of their location and assigned station.
• Plan out the seating chart and organize the reservations for the evening.
• Check with phone reservationists or answering machine messages to confirm all reservations.
• Check with management to assure private parties are properly staffed and organized for the evening.
• Verify with kitchen that menu items are readily available.
• Maintain constant contact with servers, management, and kitchen to synchronize timing and food preparation with guest flow.
• Greet guests as they leave to ensure a pleasant dining experience.
• Confirm that everything was wonderful and note any problems to promptly involve a manager.
• Act as the host or hostess, providing the first and last impression for guests.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

You are the first point of contact for guests. You’ll greet them, make them feel welcome, answer questions, and ensure they feel comfortable, valued, and attended to. Handling special requests (e.g., seating for kids, accessibility), managing waiting lists, and resolving issues promptly are key responsibilities. Positive attitude and empathy are essential. Knowledge of restaurant flow and basic systems is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Able to lift, push, and carry 20–40 lbs.
• Stand continuously for long periods of time.
• Communicate information and hotel services to management, staff, and guests.
