Job description

CONTRACT/STATUS

Part-time, hourly position (school year)

REPORTS TO

Director of Transportation

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The bus driver will be responsible for ensuring safe transportation for students to and from school, on field trips, and to and from high school athletic events, while providing student supervision and behavior management.

The bus driver’s daily duties include, but are not limited to, pre- and post-trip bus inspections, fueling the bus, reporting bus maintenance issues in a timely manner, and maintaining the interior of the bus to reflect a safe and clean environment.

The bus driver will keep personal timesheets and pre and post-trip inspection reports updated daily.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be 21 years of age
• Must be able to relate and work well with children in grades K–12
• Must have or be able to obtain a Michigan Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brake endorsements.
• Must have or be able to obtain a Federal Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Medical Card)
• Must have or be able to obtain a Michigan Department of Education Bus Driver Certification Card
• Must have an acceptable driving record and a good sense of directions
• Must demonstrate patience, even-tempered, and cautionary decision-making abilities
• Must have the desire to promote positive interactions with staff, students, parents, and the community
• Qualified applicants will receive paid training
