Job summary

Ursus, Inc. in Fremont, CA is hiring a General Maintenance Technician for 1st shift. The role supports operation and repair of critical R&D lab systems, with some travel to Hayward.

Pay is $35-40/hour on a 3+ month contract to hire, Monday–Friday 6am-2pm, with some weekend work. The ideal candidate has 5+ years as an industrial/manufacturing technician, strong HVAC, mechanical repair, and installation skills, and the ability to read manuals and drawings.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as an industrial or manufacturing technician
• HVAC technician willing to work across other trades
• Strong HVAC, mechanical repair, and installation skills, with knowledge of codes and safety regulations
• Familiarity with lab facility needs, including ventilation, cleanroom support, and specialized utilities
• Ability to read equipment manuals, drawings, and parts lists
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Support Facilities contractor scopes of work, including job walks, LOTO confirmation, pre/post-job reviews, and ensuring contractors follow our client's standards
• Operate, maintain, diagnose, and repair HVAC, boilers, chillers, hydronic loops, VAVs, compressors, dryers, exhaust systems, and specialized lab equipment
• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on mechanical, control, and infrastructure systems
• Install, repair, and modify ductwork, piping, exhaust equipment, and HVAC components, including brazing, soldering, and welding
• Inspect mechanical and electrical systems for performance, safety, and lab-specific compliance
• Identify and request parts needed for jobs
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors during maintenance and installation projects
• Respond to lab service requests and support general facility maintenance
