Job summary

The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is seeking a Manager, Government Relations and Grassroots Advocacy to support its year-round public policy program from its Washington, DC headquarters. This hybrid role reports to the Senior Director Advocacy & Government Relations and focuses on advancing federal and state policy priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Three+ years related experience preferably on Capitol Hill, the patient advocacy community, in government or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Understanding of the legislative process.
• Experience developing and conducting grassroots campaigns and working with advocates.
• Detail oriented and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment interfacing with management, volunteers, and Congressional staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Lupus Foundation of America’s grassroots program, including developing materials to support grassroots engagement and recruitment of advocates across LFA programs.
• Conduct grassroots advocacy campaigns, including developing advocacy alerts and updates, talking points and supporting materials for advancing the Foundation’s federal and state policy priorities.
• Monitor Federal and State legislative issues relating to the Foundation’s public policy priorities, including those impacting access to care and research.
• Partner with LFA Network Development staff to ensure Advocacy activities in all regional activities, including educational conferences, support groups, and walks.
• Work with Advocacy & Government Relations team to coordinate participation in and development of strategic coalitions on federal and state policy issues.
• Represent the Foundation in meetings with members of Congress and regulatory agencies.
• Support planning and implementation of the Foundation’s National Lupus Advocacy Summit and other advocacy conferences and events.
• Create policy communications for distribution on the Foundation’s website, social media, electronic newsletters and other communications channels.
• Convey a professional and positive image that reflects favorably on the Foundation.
• Other duties as assigned.
