  • Execute signage updates, work orders, and graphic replacement projects.

Job description

Join a talented team of exhibit developers, graphic designers, exhibit designers, and fabricators who create the experiences and exhibits that ignite our community's passion for nature and science. This role combines graphic design, print production, and installation, taking projects from first concept through final install with an eye for detail and design integration. You'll produce the graphics that inspire curiosity and learning across the Museum. This role has a large focus on print production and completing tickets through our in-house print shop, installing environmental designs into new temporary exhibitions, refreshing signage for updated programming, and producing new vinyls, signs, and decals from file to final placement.

You’ll collaborate closely with the Exhibits team, internal and external stakeholders, through an iterative process that moves between design, print production, and installation to create accessible, audience-centered experiences reflecting the Museum's mission and values. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in developing creative concepts, producing print-ready files, operating large-format production equipment, and coordinating installations. Familiarity large format printing production is a must-have as we run print production on-site from our print shop.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm, some early or late nights, or weekends may be needed

Essential Duties
  • Print large format projects on industrial print machinery (HP). Comfort with hands-on print production work, including creating production-ready files while following graphic standards and guidelines.
  • Review and revise layouts, typography, imagery, and formatting to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Develop innovative graphic design concepts (and in some cases creative direction), carrying that vision through into production, including material selection, and fabrication approaches.
  • Prepare, produce, and install graphic elements for temporary and permanent exhibitions as well as public spaces.
  • Execute signage updates, work orders, and graphic replacement projects.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in graphic design and print readiness and production.
  • Some early, long, or late hours required to meet deadlines
  • Advanced proficiency in:
    • Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign

Working Conditions
  • Office: Moderate noise (open business office with computers, printers, traffic, conversations, laughter, meetings); work in print shops, exhibit galleries and public spaces.
  • Equipment: Computer, large format printers, laminators, and other graphic production equipment, fabrication/installation tools and materials, ladders, high lift.
  • Machinery use: High lift, scissor lift, forklift, ladders, power tools, moving and installation equipment.
  • Museum collections: handling, packing/unpacking, preparation, cleaning, repair, maintenance ofcollection items and displays.
  • Lifting requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds in workshops, galleries, and public spaces.
  • Stand or sit: Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (approx. 50% of time)
