Working closely with the Director of Marketing, this design-focused role brings design expertise and creative thinking to PMAC’s marketing and communications, and plays an active role in promoting PMAC’s programs, events, and organizational priorities. The role will build on PMAC’s existing visual identity and bring a cohesive approach to how it is expressed across print and digital communications. Social media management and multimedia content creation are also part of the role.

This is a hybrid role of 20 hours per week. 1 morning or afternoon per week is to be spent on-site at our 973 Islington St. location in Portsmouth; the remaining hours may be completed remotely, with flexibility in setting a regular weekly schedule.

PMAC respects, values, and welcomes diversity in our workplace. We welcome candidates of varied backgrounds, capabilities, perspectives, social identities, and gender expressions. PMAC is an equal opportunity employer. The successful candidate for this position will be subject to a pre-employment background check.

Core Responsibilities

Working closely with the Director of Marketing, responsibilities include:

  • Lead graphic design for PMAC’s marketing and communications, creating original work for a wide range of print and digital needs, from major organizational pieces to day-to-day promotional materials.
  • Build on PMAC’s existing visual identity, bringing fresh creative thinking while maintaining a cohesive visual presence.
  • Manage design projects from concept through production, including preparing files for professional printing, coordinating with vendors, adapting creative across formats, and maintaining organized design files and assets.
  • Work with program and event leads across PMAC to understand their goals and promotional needs, then partner with the Director of Marketing to shape the promotional approach.
  • Carry out promotion for PMAC concerts, exhibitions, workshops, and other programs and events across digital, print, and community channels. This work may include creating and maintaining online event listings, coordinating flyer distribution in the community, supporting digital promotion, and ensuring information remains accurate and up to date.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing on content planning and handle day-to-day social media posting, scheduling, and monitoring.
  • Create, capture, and source visual content for marketing communications, including original graphics, photography, and short-form video.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings and annual full-staff meeting.
  • Attend occasional weeknight or weekend events (approx. 10-12 times per year; schedule to be discussed).
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated graphic design experience, supported by a strong portfolio of original creative work across print and digital formats.
  • A creative and conceptual approach to design, with the ability to develop original visual approaches that respond to the goal, message, and audience while building creatively on an established visual identity.
  • Ability to receive and incorporate feedback, collaborate effectively, and move creative work from initial concept through final execution.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) and experience preparing files for professional print production.
  • Ability to capture and select effective photographs and create short-form video for marketing and social media.
  • Digital fluency and the ability to learn new tools and platforms quickly.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, assets, and recurring promotional tasks.
  • Familiarity with Asana project management software, or ability to learn quickly.
  • Experience with basic digital advertising, email marketing, or promotional writing is a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
  • $25–$28 hourly, commensurate with experience (part-time, 20 hrs/week)
