The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum seeks an emerging Graphic Designer to join its Brand Design team.

This role extends beyond traditional graphic design to help shape the museum's visitor experience across exhibitions, marketing, environmental graphics, digital products, and institutional initiatives. Working within an interdisciplinary team, the Graphic Designer creates visual communications that connect audiences with the Guggenheim through thoughtful, engaging, and accessible design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating typography, branding, editorial, and digital design.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects), Figma, and Microsoft 365.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience in museums and cultural institutions.
  • Knowledge of environmental graphic design, accessibility standards, motion graphics, and basic front-end workflows (HTML/CSS).

Responsibilities

  • Design brand communications across print, digital, environmental, and social media.
  • Support exhibition graphics, wayfinding, title walls, donor recognition, and other environmental graphics.
  • Contribute to visitor experiences, public activations, partnerships, and experiential design projects.
  • Design digital assets, wireframes, and UI layouts using Figma, applying user-centered and accessible design principles.
  • Prepare production-ready files for print, fabrication, motion, and digital publishing.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Curatorial, Editorial, Marketing, Communications, Visitor Experience, Retail, Exhibition Design, and external creative partners.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum seeks an emerging designer to join its Brand Design team. This role extends beyond traditional graphic design to help shape the museum's visitor experience across exhibitions, marketing, environmental graphics, digital products, and institutional initiatives. Working within an interdisciplinary team, the Graphic Designer creates visual communications that connect audiences with the Guggenheim through thoughtful, engaging, and accessible design. The ideal candidate is passionate about typography, storytelling, architecture, technology, and contemporary culture, and eager to grow within one of the world's leading museums.

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field.
  • 1+ year of professional design experience (including internships or equivalent freelance work).
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating typography, branding, editorial, and digital design.
  • Excellent attention to typography, layout, and production detail.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects), Figma, and Microsoft 365.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience in museums and cultural institutions.
  • Knowledge of environmental graphic design, accessibility standards, motion graphics, and basic front-end workflows (HTML/CSS).
  • Successful designer will think beyond individual deliverables to create cohesive brand experiences across physical and digital touchpoints.
  • Must be a collaborative, detail-oriented, curious, and committed to exceptional craft, bringing creativity and thoughtful problem-solving to projects of every scale.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design brand communications across print, digital, environmental, and social media.
  • Support exhibition graphics, wayfinding, title walls, donor recognition, and other environmental graphics.
  • Contribute to visitor experiences, public activations, partnerships, and experiential design projects.
  • Design digital assets, wireframes, and UI layouts using Figma, applying user-centered and accessible design principles.
  • Prepare production-ready files for print, fabrication, motion, and digital publishing.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Curatorial, Editorial, Marketing, Communications, Visitor Experience, Retail, Exhibition Design, and external creative partners.
WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties upon request.
  • Occasionally work may be conducted outdoors, exposure to varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays on occasion.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field.

WORK SCHEDULE

Hybrid eligible, and hours vary based on position

POSITION TYPE

Full-time, Exempt, This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 2110 UAW.

SALARY RANGE

$68958.50 Annually
