The ideal candidate is an experienced writer and copy editor with a strong understanding of media relations, digital content strategy, institutional messaging, and cross-department and cross-institutional communications. This role is part of the PR team and will work alongside the Public Relations Manager and Communications Associate; it will also bridge the work of press, marketing (social media, video leads), and brand (design, photography leads) teams to create a more cohesive and engaging digital presence on the museum’s owned channels.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with an understanding of institutional communications, brand voice, editorial standards, and the cultural media landscape.
  • A passion for storytelling, audience engagement, and bringing institutional values to life through storytelling and digital content.
  • Experience managing and updating websites (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Salesforce, or similar CMS/CRM platforms).
  • Highly collaborative mindset and ability to work cross-functionally within the Communications department (PR, marketing, social, and brand teams) and cross-institutionally with Curatorial, Advancement, Operations, and other departments.
  • Bachelor's degree or related fields is a plus.
  • 2-4 years of experience in communications, PR or Marketing agency, or related role—preferably in a creative field, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization.
Responsibilities
  • Write, edit, and adapt content for the institution’s webpages, including drafting exhibition descriptions, program highlights, and special projects.
  • Serve as lead copy editor with PR, Social Media, Marketing, and Brand to ensure tone, voice, and message align with institutional brand and department goals.
  • Collaborate on storytelling with PR and marketing colleagues to bring energy and clarity to the museum’s website and external and internal messaging.
  • Collaborate with marketing and brand teams (social media, video, and photography) to connect and amplify messaging across platforms and support a dynamic, user-focused digital content experience.
  • Oversee and update key areas of the website, including the press room, newsroom, exhibition pages, and program pages.
  • Work with colleagues to streamline content and web management processes.
  • Develop, edit, and manage content for internal communications channels including intranet, e-communications, and select speaker remarks to energize Guggenheim New York’s narrative and reflect institutional values and priorities.
