Job description

The Change Academy at Marketing for Change offers graduate students, college seniors, recent graduates and other emerging creatives a paid semester-long experience working and learning at one of the nation’s leading behavior-change marketing agencies. In behavior-change marketing, the objective is not sales or profits; it’s influencing behaviors in a way that leads to a healthier, safer, more sustainable world.

We’re looking for a Graphic Design & Creative Intern who wants to put their creative skills to work on real projects with real impact. You’ll work alongside our creative team and other experts across the agency, gaining hands-on experience developing visual concepts and creative work for campaigns designed to make a difference.

As part of the Change Academy, you’ll have opportunities to contribute to real client work while strengthening your design skills and learning how behavioral science informs creative strategy. Depending on the project, your work may include graphic design, visual concepting, campaign creative, digital and social content, presentation design, and other visual storytelling.

You’ll receive mentorship and skill-specific training from experienced creatives, along with broader training in behavioral science and behavior-change marketing. You’ll also participate in agency events, client meetings and, if you want, off-the-clock social gatherings.

Interns earn $18.40 an hour or minimum wage (whichever is higher) and work 20 hours a week, with at least one day a week in our offices. The in-office experience is critical to helping interns improve their skills, work directly with mentors and share a group experience with their cohort. Please confirm you can participate in person at your selected location.

Location

Our work hubs are located in Orlando and just outside Washington, DC, and we very much prefer to hire people willing to locate in those areas. We are mostly a hybrid workforce with staff working together in-person at least one day a week because we value the fun and collaboration that allows.

The program lasts between 12 and 16 weeks depending on the semester. Instruction takes place during the first 6 to 8 weeks of the internship, mixed with group projects and real work experience. The final weeks focus on work experience and give interns an opportunity to build their portfolios with meaningful, professional creative experience.

The Change Academy is the main path to entry-level employment at Marketing for Change. Several former M4C interns are now in leadership roles at M4C, including an art director, creative director, senior media planner and strategist.

What we’re looking for
  • Relevant experience, coursework or training in graphic design, visual communication, advertising, art direction or a related creative field. Preference is given to graduate students, recent graduates or college seniors with at least one prior internship or comparable creative experience. Other adults with the right skills but no degree may also apply. Several have been successful in the past.
  • A portfolio or work samples that show your design skills, creative thinking and visual point of view. School, internship, freelance and personal projects are all welcome.
  • Familiarity with common design tools and an interest in continuing to build your creative and technical skills.
  • A willingness to take feedback, try new ideas and collaborate with other creatives, strategists and agency teams.
  • Deep curiosity about what makes people tick and how design can influence what people notice, feel and do.
  • An interest in using your creative powers for good and making the world a better place.
  • Being a nice person. Seriously. We want the kind of person most other people love to work with.

A quick note about our hiring process Applying for a job can feel a little like sending your application out into the void and hoping a real person is on the other side. At Marketing for Change, one will be.

Real people on our team review every application. We may use technology to make parts of the process easier, but when it comes to getting to know you, considering what you could bring to our team and making hiring decisions, that’s us.

We know there’s a real person on the other side of every application, too. Someone who gave us their time, shared a little bit of their story and decided we might be worth exploring. We don’t take that lightly. And if you’re considering us, we’re genuinely glad you’re here.

Note: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification.
