Job summary

MASS is seeking an experienced, full-time Graphic Designer to join our communications team in Boston. This role translates complex ideas into clear visual communications across print, digital, and presentation formats, collaborating with staff across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines strong design fundamentals with superb production skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field.
  • 3–5+ years of professional graphic design experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Experience designing presentation systems in PowerPoint and/or Google Slides.
  • Familiarity with web graphics, responsive design principles, and digital asset creation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and produce high-quality presentations, reports, proposals, portfolios, publications, and other print and digital materials.
  • Create visual narratives that clearly communicate complex ideas with impact.
  • Develop graphics for MASS website and digital communications, understanding web design basics.
  • Maintain and strengthen MASS visual identity across channels.
  • Collaborate with staff across departments to translate content into engaging visuals.
  • Prepare production-ready files for print and digital distribution.
  • Organize design assets and templates to improve efficiency.
  • Support exhibitions, events, and environmental graphics as needed.

Job description

MASS is seeking an experienced full-time Graphic Designer to join our communications team. This role is ideal for a highly skilled designer who excels at translating complex ideas into clear, compelling visual communications across print, digital, and presentation formats.

Working closely with the Communications team and staff across the organization, this designer will help shape how MASS shares its work with partners, funders, clients, and the public. Primary responsibilities include designing presentations, project portfolios, publications, reports, proposals, social media assets, website graphics, and other communications materials while ensuring consistency across the MASS visual identity.

The ideal candidate combines strong graphic design fundamentals with excellent production skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

This is a hybrid role expected to work from our Boston office 3 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Work across the communications, business development and philanthropy teams to design and produce high-quality presentations, reports, proposals, portfolios, publications, and other print and digital communications.
  • Create compelling visual narratives that communicate complex ideas with clarity and impact.
  • Develop graphics and visual assets for the MASS website and digital communications, with an understanding of web design best practices.
  • Maintain and strengthen the MASS visual identity across all communications channels.
  • Collaborate with communications staff, creative director, architects, researchers, and leadership to translate content into engaging visual materials.
  • Prepare production-ready files for print and digital distribution.
  • Organize and manage design assets, templates, and presentation systems to improve efficiency across the organization.
  • Incorporate feedback thoughtfully while balancing design quality, organizational priorities, and deadlines.
  • Support the design of exhibitions, events, and environmental graphics as needed.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 3-5+ years of professional graphic design experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Experience designing presentation systems in PowerPoint and/or Google Slides.
  • Familiarity with Figma or other collaborative design tools.
  • Understanding of web graphics, responsive design principles, and digital asset creation.
  • Strong project management and file organization skills.
  • Ability to balance creativity with efficient production workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with architecture, design, nonprofit, or cultural organizations.
  • Experience supporting or maintaining websites, particularly content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress.
  • Experience with exhibition graphics or environmental design.
  • Basic motion graphics or video editing skills (Adobe Premiere Pro or After Effects).
  • Illustration or icon design skills are a plus.
