We are looking for a strong visual designer who can work quickly to develop original creative concepts, graphics, and illustrations for print and digital marketing. This position is expected to last until late January 2027.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Graphic Designer will create highly visible work across our stores and digital channels while also contributing to the broader work of the Marketing Department. Success in this role requires strong design skills and creative instincts, sound judgment, accuracy, initiative, and the ability to produce polished work while managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced retail environment.

*Please note - if you applied for the marketing intern position, you do not need to reapply unless you would like to show more graphic design examples.*
Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize and create original graphics, illustrations, and visual designs for campaigns, promotions, signage, social media, email, web, and other print and digital applications.
  • Translate marketing ideas and creative direction into compelling visual concepts, often working from an initial idea rather than an established template or supplied design.
  • Create polished designs using strong typography, layout, composition, illustration, image manipulation, and other visual techniques appropriate to each project.
  • Work confidently within established brand standards and identity systems, appropriately applying logos, typography, color, photography, and other brand assets.
  • Prepare professional, production‑ready files for print and digital use and support hands‑on production of marketing materials, including printing, trimming, mounting, and installing signage.
  • Contribute photography, social media content, copywriting and editing, website updates, and other marketing work based on project and department needs.
  • Review creative and marketing materials carefully for visual quality, accuracy, spelling, grammar, consistency, and appropriate brand voice.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager, Marketing team, merchandise buyers, department managers, and store teams to support products, promotions, events, and other business priorities.
  • Balance planned projects with short‑turnaround assignments and changing priorities while maintaining high standards for creativity, quality, and accuracy.
Qualifications
  • Strong portfolio of original graphic design work demonstrating creativity, concept development, typography and layout, and the ability to create finished visual solutions from an initial idea.
  • Strong illustration and original graphic‑creation skills, including the ability to create and manipulate vector artwork.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Strong visual judgment and understanding of design principles, brand identity, and designing for both print and digital applications.
  • Ability to develop polished creative work efficiently while managing multiple assignments, deadlines, and changing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail, including proofreading and an eye for visual and content inconsistencies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the initiative to work independently and the flexibility to contribute to the broader work of the Marketing Department.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or academic focus in graphic design, visual communication, illustration, or a related field.
  • Photography and photo‑editing skills.
  • Experience creating visual content for social media.
  • Copywriting and editing skills with good judgment for audience, brand voice, and tone.
  • Familiarity with website content management, e‑commerce, or digital marketing.
Work Schedule

Approximately 24 hours per week, primarily during regular weekday business hours. Hours may occasionally vary based on seasonal business needs, major promotions, events, photography, and other Marketing Department activities. This is primarily an onsite position at our flagship University Book Store location on the Ave.

Application Requirements

Applicants should submit a resume and portfolio demonstrating strong original graphic design work. We are particularly interested in seeing projects that demonstrate concept development, original graphics or illustration, typography, and the ability to take a project from an initial idea through finished design.
