Qualifications

  • Coursework or academic focus in graphic design, visual communication, photography, marketing, advertising, communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated creative, marketing, or communications ability through a portfolio, work samples, relevant experience, or coursework.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality, including strong writing, proofreading, and editing instincts.
  • Ability to work efficiently while managing multiple assignments, deadlines, and changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, with the initiative and reliability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to receive feedback and creative direction and translate it effectively into finished work.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, contribute outside a primary area of expertise, and participate in the full range of Marketing Department work.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Create and support marketing content across print and digital channels, including in-store signage, advertising, email, website content, social media, promotions, and customer communications.
  • Develop creative concepts and translate marketing objectives into clear, compelling, on-brand communications appropriate for different audiences.
  • Contribute to graphic design, photography, visual content, copywriting, editing, and other creative work.
  • Write, proofread, and edit marketing content for accuracy, clarity, grammar, consistency, and appropriate University Book Store brand voice and tone.
  • Create and contribute ideas for timely social media content, including graphics, photography, copy, and short-form content.
  • Help keep website content and navigation fresh, accurate, relevant, and useful by updating promotional content, imagery, messaging, and other assigned elements.
  • Work efficiently while balancing planned projects with short-turnaround assignments and changing priorities, maintaining high standards for quality and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager, Marketing team, merchandise buyers, department managers, and store teams to understand needs and effectively market products, services, promotions, and events.
  • Stay current with University Book Store marketing plans and relevant UW and campus calendars to anticipate events, milestones, seasonal opportunities, and content needs.
  • Support hands-on execution of marketing activities, including printing, trimming, mounting and installing signage; assisting with photo shoots, promotions, activations, and special events; and maintaining organized creative assets.
  • Bring ideas and a student perspective to the Marketing team and contribute wherever needed to help the department execute its work effectively.

Part-time Marketing Interns

University Book Store is seeking talented and versatile Marketing Interns with immediate availability to join our Marketing team! We're looking for students with complementary strengths in graphic design, photography and visual content, social media, copywriting and editing. These positions are expected to run through the end of January 2027.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, Marketing Interns contribute to marketing efforts across our stores and digital channels and collaborate on projects to support the day-to-day work of the Marketing Department. Success requires creativity, sound judgment, accuracy, initiative, and the ability to produce polished work while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities

Areas of Strength

Candidates should demonstrate particular strength in one or more of the following:

  • Graphic Design:Visual design, typography, layout, brand identity and execution, print and digital applications, and Adobe Creative Cloud tools such as Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Photography & Visual Content:Composition, lighting, visual storytelling, image selection and editing, and product, lifestyle, event, or social media photography.
  • Marketing & Content:Copywriting, proofreading and editing, audience and brand judgment, social media, website content, campaign execution, and event support.
Qualifications

  • Familiarity with tools or platforms such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, CapCut, Shopify, or other creative, e-commerce, or digital marketing systems.
  • Experience working in retail, marketing, a branded environment, or another setting with real-world deadlines and multiple audiences.
Work Schedule

Approximately 24 hours per week, primarily during regular weekday business hours. We recognize that this is a student position and will work with selected candidates to establish regular schedules that accommodate academic commitments. Hours may occasionally vary based on seasonal business needs, major promotions, events, photography, football game days, and other Marketing Department activities. Some evening or weekend availability may occasionally be needed. This is primarily an onsite position at University Book Store locations.

The wage for this position is $22.00/hour, and benefits include: discount on Husky merchandise, student & art supplies, and gift items; holiday pay and 401k Retirement plan. Additional benefits once hours requirements are met include sick pay and 401k employer match.
