Job summary

E & J Gallo Winery in Madera, California seeks a Research Scientist 1 – Grape Breeding to conduct breeding and genetic improvement research for wine grapes. Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Plant Science, Plant Breeding, Plant Genetics, or a related field and 6 years of experience independently designing and conducting research.
• Must have 6 years of experience in data collection, including analysis and interpretation of results.
• Must be proficient in writing and presenting technical reports for upper management, scientists, and non-scientists.
• In lieu of a bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in the aforementioned fields and 6 years of experience, employer will accept a master's or Ph.D. in the aforementioned fields with the corresponding experience.
• Must have demonstrated proficiency in developing, planning, managing and executing research projects to contribute to grapevine yield, production efficiency, and quality; and applying technologies to improve grapevine materials.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research focused on breeding and genetic improvement of wine grape varieties.
• Plan and conduct experiments on yield, production efficiency, genetic trait mapping, and quality improvement.
• Contribute to development and deployment of germplasm related to grape genetics and breeding.
• Execute viticulture and grape breeding research strategies per corporate guidance.
