Job summary

The City of Long Beach is seeking a Grants Administration Officer within the Department of Public Works, Grants Administration Division. This unclassified, at-will management position oversees internal grant coordination city‑wide, assesses opportunities, and coordinates with external agencies such as SCAG and Metro.

The role requires leading grant-writing efforts, coordinating with the Mayor’s and City Manager’s Offices, monitoring board actions, and supporting capital programs like Elevate ’28

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required or higher.
  • Three years of professional experience managing publicly funded projects or programs.
  • At least one year in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Valid California Class C Driver License required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify grant opportunities and eligibility for Federal, State, County, and other agencies.
  • Coordinate with City leadership to select grant opportunities to pursue.
  • Oversee the Department's most complex grant applications and awards.
  • Coordinate with the Mayor’s Office and City Manager’s Office on funding priorities.
  • Serve as liaison to external agencies (LA Metro, SCAG, County, State, and Federal) for funding sources.
  • Monitor LA Metro Board actions and report to the Mayor’s Office and Department leadership.
  • Develop and communicate Public Works funding priorities to support regional and state funding.
  • Represent the Department to elected officials and external stakeholders to advocate for infrastructure funding.
