Job summary

King County is seeking a collaborative Grants Manager to administer and oversee federally and locally funded grants within the Budget section of the Executive Office. The role emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and delivering high-quality, equitable services to residents.

As part of the Grants Team, you will lead grant development, contract negotiations, and reimbursement audits while supporting a variety of capital and non-capital programs.

Job description

King County is launching an ambitious effort to ensure that government delivers high-quality, efficient and equitable services to every resident. To support this work, we are seeking a collaborative, strategic, and knowledgeable Grants Manager.

The ideal candidate will be an individual who enjoys working as part of a team, takes pride in holding themself accountable for their work, and has a passion for serving our King County communities.

The Grants Team is one of several teams within the Budget section of the Executive Office. The team is responsible for deploying and administering more than $100 million in federally and locally funded grants that support community programs, projects, and services. Currently, the team consists of three Grant Managers and a Grants Section Manager who work closely together. The Grants Team strives to be a highly cohesive and collaborative group where every member steps in to support others, responds to high priority needs, and works across the portfolio to ensure successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform an assortment of grant administration functions using established methods and policies and procedures; including grant development, contract negotiation and execution, timely preparation of grant payment packages, and effective maintenance of grant and loan files.
  • Support a variety of complex grant programs and partnerships, for both capital and non-capital grant projects.
  • Audit and prepare grantee reimbursement packages for payment, assist with any documentation requests, and create other reports as needed.
Assist with grant compliance
  • Knowledge of local, Federal, and State funded grant programs and initiatives.
  • Knowledge and experience with government procurement and compliance standards.
  • Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of a wide variety of grants administration issues and problems.
  • Experience in addressing strategic issues in grant administration operations including issues that have complex political and programmatic elements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Expectations
  • A focus on being present in King County, to connect and build relationships with those we serve and those with whom we partner.
  • In the office a minimum of 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). There may be additional in-person days required. Meetings may not have a call-in option for required in-person days, and the expectation is to be in the office.

  • Bring an urgency to the work. We will start fast. The work will be intense, challenging, and incredibly rewarding.
  • Meetings will have written expectations, including an agenda with the goals and outcomes. Owners and next steps will be clear.
