Job Overview

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is seeking a Grants Manager to work under the supervision of the Director, Grants and Proposals. The role focuses on identifying functional funding opportunities and developing, writing and submitting major grant proposals ($1m+). The candidate will primarily target programmatic and research funding from federal, state, local and private sources.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in development and coordination of complex, funder-compliant programmatic budgets, lead simpler budgets with program and accounting staff.
  • Create compelling grant narratives using effective storytelling, data, and persuasive prose that align FHCSD's needs with funder priorities.
  • Lead and coordinate research, development, writing, packaging and submission of major, complex grant proposals.
  • Maintain and contribute to data organization systems and departmental databases.
  • Gather basic and complex statistical, analytical, and anecdotal data through internal and external research.
  • Facilitate discussions with program and grant writing teams to select appropriate data for funders.
  • Assist program staff in designing programmatic and research activities that align with funder interests and funding patterns.
  • Identify and develop strategic relationships for grant partnerships with established and potential partners.
  • Represent FHCSD in collaboration with universities, agencies, projects, and entities on proposal development.
  • Provide peer review and critique of drafts for formatting, grammar, flow, and alignment with review criteria.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may require flexible work hours.
Qualifications
  • BA or BS degree with a minimum of 3 years of verifiable grant‑writing success or equivalent education/experience.
  • Preferred: MA, MS, MPH or dual degree with writing plus science emphasis.
  • Minimum 3 years of proposal development experience.
  • Experience with HRSA, SAMHSA, NIH, County of San Diego funding and portals such as Grants.gov, EHB, BuyNet, Instrumental grant platform.
  • Preferred: 2+ years in a FQHC or non‑profit health context.
  • Exceptional project, time, and organizational management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional writing skills and ability to develop compelling funding arguments using technical and clinical data.
  • Experience developing and understanding basic and complex budgets in Excel up to $1,000,000, including mid‑cycle adjustments, indirect cost calculations, and subcontract budgets.
  • Experience using AI tools to assess grant drafts against funder criteria and support grant preparation.
  • Valid California driver’s license; possession of a car and adequate insurance; acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to travel between sites and other locations as needed.
Compensation & Benefits

Regular Full‑Time position. Salary range: $70,304.00–$99,251.00. Benefits include retirement plan with employer match, paid time off, extended sick leave, paid holidays, medical/dental/vision/FSA/life insurance, employee discounts and wellness programs.
