Job summary

Houston-Galveston Area Council is seeking a finance professional to provide fiscal support for the Gulf Coast Workforce Board’s programs and contracts in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in local government or nonprofit finance, with strong Excel and reporting skills for complex budgets.

Qualifications

• Finance and governmental accounting principles knowledge.
• Experience developing, modifying, and monitoring federal or state grant budgets.
• Understanding Uniform Administrative Requirements and related compliance regulations.
• Excel proficiency within Microsoft Office 365.
• Experience with accounting software, preferably MIP.
• Experience with project management software, preferably Asana.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Service-oriented with professionalism in diverse environments.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong time management and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide fiscal support to the Gulf Coast Workforce Board’s program and contracted operations.
• Update grant budgets, recommend fund transfers, and monitor expenditures.
• Collaborate with H-GAC Finance to maintain financial records and troubleshoot issues.
• Ensure programs comply with Workforce Board directives and federal/state/local laws.
• Read, review, interpret, and enact guidance from government agencies.
• Review fiscal information and make recommendations affecting budgeting.
• Communicate updates regarding payments to training and child care providers.
• Track and reconcile scholarship fund balances and obligations.
• Coordinate fund projection tools, dashboards, and tracking systems with Board staff.
• Support audits with documentation.
• Ensure work is accurate, complete, and compliant with procedures and guidelines.
• Collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
