Job summary

Houston-Galveston Area Council is seeking a fiscal professional to provide comprehensive financial support for its workforce programs. You will manage budgets, generate reporting tools, and coordinate with the Finance Department to ensure accuracy and compliance.

The role emphasizes detailed budgeting, monitoring expenditures, and creating dashboards to improve visibility into financial data for internal and external stakeholders. Collaboration with a diverse team is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable discipline or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience with local government, nonprofit programs, or related duties.
  • Experience in workforce budgeting, financial forecasting, and reporting.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Access; familiarity with MIP and Asana.

Responsibilities

  • Provide fiscal support to the Gulf Coast Workforce Board’s program and contracted operations.
  • Prepare, track, and report on grant budgets; design financial reporting tools for contractors.
  • Provide updates to supervisory staff regarding current tasks and necessary action items.
  • Periodically prepare and update grant/service provider budgets, recommend fund transfers, and monitor expenditures.
  • Work closely with FInance to maintain accurate financial records and troubleshoot problems.
  • Prepare and present information and financial reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop analytical reporting tools including dashboards and automation solutions to improve recurring financial tasks and visibility into data.
  • Assist with purchasing/procurement, financial monitoring, and lease management.
  • Support team members by gathering support documentation for agency audits.
  • Ensure all work is accurate, complete, and compliant with procedures and federal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team to achieve objectives.

About Houston-Galveston Area Council

What will I be doing?
  • Provide fiscal support to the Gulf Coast Workforce Board’s program and contracted operations.
  • Support workforce programs by preparing, tracking, and reporting on grant budgets; designing financial reporting tools for our contractors.
  • Provide updates to supervisory staff regarding current tasks and necessary action items.
  • Periodically prepare and update grant/service provider budgets, recommend fund transfers, and monitor expenditures.
  • Work closely with H-GAC’s Finance Department to maintain accurate financial records and troubleshoot problems.
  • Prepare and present information and financial reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop analytical reporting tools in the form of dashboards and automation solutions to optimize recurring financial tasks, ensuring consistent, accurate and clear visibility into financial data.
  • Assist with Purchasing/Procurement, Financial Monitoring, and Lease Management.
  • Support team members by gathering support documentation for agency audits.
  • Ensure all work is accurate, complete, and compliant with established procedures and federal guidelines.
  • Work productively with a diverse team of individuals.
Key Qualifications
  • Experience performing budget and accounting duties
  • Working knowledge of federal/state grant budgeting processes and OMB administrative and cost circulars
  • Above average skills in Excel, Word, and Access as well as other database programs
  • Experience with accounting software, preferably MIP
  • Experience with project management software, preferably Asana
  • Service oriented with a high degree of professionalism in dealing with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to complete tasks independently
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Do you have ...
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study
  • 3 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school, or in job-related duties
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or related field of study
  • 5 years of experience in related job duties
  • Experience in workforce programs budgeting, financial forecasting and reporting
Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00
