Job summary

The Grants and Contracts Accountant at Furman University is a key member of the Financial Services team, managing the financial administration of externally funded grants and contracts and ensuring compliance with sponsor and governmental regulations. This role coordinates with PIs, departments, and external agencies to ensure proper stewardship of awarded funds.

Responsibilities include grant accounting, monitoring budgets, preparing financial reports, and supporting audits and closeout

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Two to five years of accounting experience in higher education, government, nonprofit, or grant accounting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting and account reconciliations.
  • Proficiency with Excel spreadsheets including pivot tables.
  • Experience with Workday for grant accounting and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor financial activity for federal, state, local, and private grants and contracts.
  • Review expenditures for allowability, allocability, reasonableness, and sponsor compliance.
  • Establish and maintain grant and contract accounts in Workday.
  • Reconcile grant accounts and track budgets to prevent overspending.
  • Prepare financial reports required by sponsoring agencies and university leadership.
