Job summary

The Salvation Army Hawaii County Department is seeking a Grants & Contracts Accountant who reports to the Hawaii County Coordinators and brings strong GAAP knowledge to nonprofit contract accounting. This full-time, exempt role handles all accounting functions, government reporting, budgeting support, and cost allocations to ensure financial stability of each program.

Required are a bachelor's degree in accounting, 5+ years of professional accounting, experience with Great Plains and Excel,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting with experience in accounting software and spreadsheets.
• Minimum 5 years professional accounting work overseeing finance operations for government contracts in non-profits.
• Valid TB clearance and physical.
• Valid Hawaii Driver's license and no-fault insurance.
• FBI/Criminal History and CAN checks cleared.

Responsibilities

• Ensure financial statements conform to GAAP.
• Assist the FIS Administrator with budgeting and cost control.
• Handle insurance matters according to The Salvation Army.
• Perform all accounting functions: A/R, A/P, cash/banking, monthly journal entries, and GL.
• Prepare all government and other funding agency financial reports timely.
• Develop and review cost allocations with administration.
• Prepare workpapers/schedules and participate in internal/external audits.
• Assist DHQ & FIS Administration with budgets and amendments.
• Prepare bi-weekly payroll.
• Provide monthly reports to DHQ & FIS Administration for program stability and contract continuity.
• Assist in budgetary information for government requests.
• Provide monthly reports for contract stability.
• Make financial decisions in the absence of Program Directors in compliance with contract requirements.
