Job summary

The Chicago Botanic Garden is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the Accounting Department with grant accounting, general ledger duties, and accurate financial reporting.

Ideal candidates will have strong GAAP knowledge, several years of accounting experience, and the ability to work collaboratively with program managers and Finance staff to ensure precise financial records and compliant reporting across the Garden.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of GAAP.
• Proficiency with general ledger, trial balance, P&L, balance sheets, and month-end processes.
• Experience with accounting software and MS Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate full life cycle of local and grant funding: budgets, expenditures, billing, reporting.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations for grants and general ledger accounts.
• Assist with grant financial reports, reimbursement requests and support schedules.
• Support annual audits and compliance reviews by preparing schedules and documentation.
• Ensure cash controls and reconciliations, including petty cash where applicable.
• Collaborate with finance and program staff to promote accurate financial reporting.
