Job summary

Gulfcoast Legal Services is seeking a Grants & Compliance Manager to drive grant writing, fund development, and compliance across government, foundation, and corporate funding streams.

The role requires strong writing ability and proactive coordination with project staff; responsibilities include budgeting, reporting, and maintaining fundraising relationships. The position is full-time with hybrid remote work from Saint Petersburg, FL and standard benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing ability required.
  • At least four years’ experience in grant writing preferred.
  • Annual continuing education/training.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related tools; literate in basic database software and social media platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Research grant and resource opportunities through various channels; evaluate applicability and refer to department.
  • Interpret RFPs and funding guidelines from government agencies and foundations.
  • Develop outlines, timelines, staffing and templates for grant proposals.
  • Write and edit grant proposals; assist with budgets; ensure timely submission.
  • Participate in grant training and stay updated on guidelines.
  • Track proposals through submission and donor communications; ensure documentation for auditing.
  • Establish relationships with grant officers and donors.
  • Represent GLS at advisory committee, coalition and funder meetings.
  • Assist with strategic planning; lead agency-wide grant reporting and cross-department data collection.
  • Track grant spending and deliverables for reporting to Deputy Directors.
  • Perform other duties assigned by CFO.

Job description

The Grants & Compliance Manager is responsible for grant writing (including government agencies, foundations, and corporations) and compliance, as well as fund development, donation solicitations, and general public relations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Research grant and resource opportunities through various channels; evaluates potential applicability of specific grants for agency use and makes referral for departmental consideration.
  • Interpret requests for proposals and funding guidelines from government agencies and foundations to determine if appropriate for the agency.
  • Work with relevant project staff to develop outlines, timelines, staffing and templates for grant proposals according to funding guidelines.
  • Write and edit grant proposal narrative, assist with preparation of application budgets, and ensure the successful, timely submission of grant applications.
  • Participate in grant technical training provided by funding agencies and keep abreast of changing grant standards and proposal guidelines.
  • Track grant proposals from development and submission to notification with regard to appropriate MOU’s, contracts, notification or rejection letters and budgets, includes ensuring all documentation is on file for auditing purposes.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with grant officers and donors.
  • Represent GLS at periodic advisory committee, coalition, and funder meetings.
  • Assist with strategic planning process.
  • Lead the agency-wide grant reporting function by managing reporting schedules, coordinating cross-departmental data collection, compiling programmatic and financial outcomes, submitting reports to funders, and supporting monitoring, audit, and compliance activities.
  • Track grant spending and deliverables to report to Deputy Directors.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the CFO.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written required.
  • Ability to deal professionally, courteously and efficiently with people.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan, direct and coordinate activities; negotiate and administer contracts; work with commercial vendors, government agencies, community groups and other organizations as necessary; communicate effectively in both written and oral forms; exhibit independent judgment in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, procedures and policies.
  • Ability to work on various projects with different priorities.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Writing, Journalism, English, Public Administration, or another social services field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing ability required.
  • At least four years’ experience in grant writing preferred.
  • Annual continuing education/training.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher, Visio, Adobe Pro, WordPress, and Constant Contact, and literate in use of basic database software and social media platforms.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift and/or carry office supplies, equipment, files, etc. up to 25 lbs. when required.
  • Ability to travel within GLS service areas when needed.

Salary starts at $65,000/hour, depending on experience. Candidate must complete an application and pass a background screening before employment can begin. GLS is a non-profit agency and relies on grant funding. Continued employment is contingent upon grant funding.
