GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position offers a dynamic opportunity to drive strategic funding initiatives and maximize grant opportunities for departments within our business unit(s). As Grant Program Manager, you'll serve as a trusted partner to leadership and investigators, orchestrating pre- and post-award management of high-impact grants and awards (five to seven figures) from foundations, corporations, and government entities. You'll collaborate with the Henry Ford Health Development Office to ensure enterprise-wide alignment while maintaining rigorous compliance with regulatory, funding agency, and organizational standards. This role balances strategic opportunity identification (15-20% of time) with comprehensive award administration and compliance management (80-85% of time).

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Drive Grant Portfolio Management: Oversee pre-award and post-award activities for state and federal grants, foundation awards, and sub-awardee initiatives, ensuring seamless execution and regulatory compliance across assigned business unit(s).
  • Identify Strategic Funding Opportunities: Proactively discover and evaluate grant funding sources aligned with departmental strategic priorities. Partner with internal stakeholders to develop compelling, fundable proposals that bridge organizational goals with external funding opportunities.
  • Maintain Comprehensive Grant Tracking Systems: Build and manage robust systems to monitor grant opportunities, submissions, awards, reports, and critical deadlines, ensuring full compliance with RFP and contractual requirements.
  • Manage Subcontractor Relationships: Oversee sub-awardee contracts, statements of work, reporting requirements, and deliverables to ensure accountability and successful project outcomes.
  • Optimize Financial Management: Develop strategic grant budgets, monitor financial performance against approved budgets, process reimbursement requests, and prepare comprehensive financial reports and grant statements.
  • Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong partnerships with grant-seeking entities across the health system, the Development Office, Fund Accounting, and corporate services to enhance organizational effectiveness and funding success.
  • Provide Expert Technical Support: Deliver specialized guidance and technical assistance to departments, enabling them to navigate complex grant requirements and maximize funding potential.
  • Cultivate Funder Relationships: Develop and maintain positive, strategic relationships with current and prospective funders to support long-term funding partnerships and organizational growth.
Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in pre- and post-award grant management including, progress reporting, subcontract management, grant finance/accounting, and compliance requirements for multiple award types including federal grants. Experience independently managing large grant awards, preferred.
  • Experience producing proposals including grant writing and managing grant and other funding awards, including federal grants.
  • Experience managing and coordinating administrative projects across multiple team members and partner agencies.
  • Experience interpreting financial data and preparing budgets and financial grant reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Experience producing detailed grant progress reports for large awards.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize work and resources, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, federal and university regulations.
  • Knowledge of current developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to determine informational needs, and to collect and analyze information.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications, including database management skills.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and/or community funding sources and mechanisms including potential sources of health-related funding.
  • Ability to conduct literature searches.
  • Experience organizing/implementing institutional grants management systems preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills preferred.
  • Good understanding of the organization's overall business and its objectives preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of planning and strategizing financial and budgeting issues preferred.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities in a cross-functional team approach preferred.
  • A multi-tasker with strong ability to work under pressure preferred.
  • Ability to devise/develop/conduct statistical analyses and reports preferred.
