Job summary

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks a Finance Specialist for the HAPPI Business Center located on UNL’s East Campus in Lincoln, NE. You will guide departments on financial management across diverse funding sources and support post‑award grant administration.

After an initial six‑month training period, a hybrid work schedule may be available with at least three days on site per week, pending supervisor approval. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of related experience in financial management, accounting, grant administration, or related field (equivalent education/experience considered).
• Experience with SAP or another large integrated financial system.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel for data analysis and reporting, and the ability to learn new technologies.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with laws, regulations, and university policies.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Managing an assigned portfolio and advising on financial management, funding strategies, and compliance across various funding sources (state accounts, grants, service centers, revolving accounts).
• Supporting post-award grant financial management and administration for sponsored research.
• Providing consultative guidance on university financial policies, sponsored programs, and business processes.
• Reviewing and coordinating complex financial activities including travel, contracts, journal entries, accounts receivable, capital assets, and other transactions.
