Job Title: Grant and Community Development Manager

FLSA Status: Full Time - exempt

Reports to: Corps Officers

Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours per week

Supervises: N/A

Rate of Pay: $62,400-$66,560

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

  • Sick leave benefit - 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire)
  • Vacation benefit - 20 vacation days per year, accrued at the rate of .0769 hours for each hour worked (accrual begins at hire but may not be used until the completion of six months of employment)
  • One floating day off for use (accrued immediately, and again annually, but may not be used until the completion of the initial three-month introductory period of employment)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for grant writing and submission primarily for the Salt Lake City Corps, Ogden, and St. George, and secondarily for The Salvation Army units operating outside of this area. This position will be responsible for conducting research on city, state, and federal government grants to foundations and corporations. Non-Salt Lake basin area units may only require assistance with editing grant proposals, or in other instances this position will be required to do all of the necessary writing.

Develop a comprehensive and aggressive system of grant submissions throughout the entire Utah area. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the timely and accurate submission of all progress and final reporting as determined by each individual grant contract. Other key aspects of the position are the development of community support in the way of sponsorships, partnerships, donations, and financial contributions.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work within the established framework and organization of the Corps and Division.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision, be prepared to encounter a variety of assignments and timelines and maintain confidentiality of sensitive material and information.
  • Maintain a high level of honesty, credibility, enthusiasm and insight.
  • Must possess excellent written communication skills and be able to draft and edit professional level communications.
  • Must demonstrate good people skills and act and dress in a professional manner.
  • Work within the policies and procedures of The Salvation Army in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Conduct research on possible grant funding sources from foundations and corporations.
  • Maintain a calendar of grant proposal due dates for foundations and corporations.
  • Establish and cultivate an ongoing, positive relationship with foundations and corporations in the Intermountain Division including attendance at approved seminars and training workshops.
  • Cultivate corporate and private donation relationships, sponsorships, partnerships, and grants.
  • Complete all compliance reports in a timely manner.
  • Attend Foundations workshops.
  • Prepare grant contracts and agreements for CFC approval.
  • Meet all compliance requirements.
  • Must be proficient in Internet, have excellent communication skills and be able to draft and edit professional level grant applications.
  • Develop annual plans to achieve 10% increases in grants, donations, sponsorships, and direct donations, unless otherwise determined by DHQ policy.
  • Develop and maintain a current data base and calendar for all foundations and corporate contacts.
  • Develop a rapport with second tier management of foundations and corporations to aid in making sure our grant applications are on target.
Software-related skills
  • Working knowledge of Outlook. integrated database applications and ability to incorporate new software programs and basic training. Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher).
Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in communications or journalism, or other related field of study.
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in grant writing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Effective and concise writing skills, as well as effective/ persuasive oral communications skills.
  • Valid Utah Driver's License and able to pass background check.
  • Working knowledge of communication software including Outlook.
  • General understanding of database management skills in mail merge, transcription, and typing is essential.

Requirements

  • The employee must be 21 years old at a minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver's license
  • An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies
  • Background Check
    • Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies
  • Physical
    • Ability to maneuver, to remain in a stationary position, to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead, to lift 25 pounds, to access and produce information from the computer, to operate a telephone, to understand written information
