Job summary

JASA is seeking a Grants Analyst I to oversee the end-to-end grant claiming process, budget monitoring, and financial reporting for assigned funding streams. You will prepare monthly and quarterly reimbursement claims for local, state, and federal sources, analyze postings, and post GL entries to support accurate accounting across the grant portfolio.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance, strong Excel/Word skills, and the ability to work independently to meet strict grantor

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of local and state government grants, contract structures, and claiming procedures.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with ability to analyze complex financial data and prepare ad hoc reports.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet grantor deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end grant claiming process, budget monitoring, and financial reporting for assigned funding streams.

  • Analyze expense postings across projects, categories, and accounts; prepare GL journal entries to reallocate expenses as needed.
  • Prepare and administer assigned budgets; analyze budget vs. actual variance reports and draft budget modifications with Program Directors.
  • Post accounts receivable entries and maintain a master billing schedule to track vouchers and monitor payment accuracy.
  • Research and respond to financial inquiries from project directors, management, grantors, and auditors.
  • Assist with annual agency budget preparation, annual audits, and special finance projects.

Grants Analyst I at JASA

As a Grants & Contracts Accountant, you will be responsible for the preparation, analysis, and submission of reimbursement claims and financial reports for various government and private funding sources. Working under minimal supervision, you will manage assigned program budgets, conduct variance analyses, post GL journal entries, and collaborate with Program Directors to ensure fiscal compliance and accuracy across JASA’s grant portfolio.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will oversee the end-to-end grant claiming process, budget monitoring, and financial reporting for assigned funding streams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Claiming & Reimbursements: Prepare monthly and quarterly expense reimbursement claims and vouchers for local, state, and federal funding sources.
  • Financial Analysis & GL Entries: Analyze expense postings across projects, categories, and accounts for accuracy; prepare General Ledger (GL) journal entries to reallocate expenses as needed.
  • Budget Administration & Variance Analysis: Prepare and administer assigned budgets, analyze budget vs. actual variance reports, and draft budget modifications in cooperation with Program Directors.
  • Revenue & AR Accounting: Post accounts receivable entries (revenue, advances, disallowances) and maintain a master billing schedule to track vouchers and monitor payment accuracy.
  • Grantor & Stakeholder Support: Research and respond to financial inquiries from project directors, management, grantors, and auditors regarding submitted claims.
  • Audits & Annual Planning: Review program statistical data and assist with annual agency budget preparation, annual audits, and special finance projects as assigned.
What You’ll Need
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Grant Knowledge: Working knowledge of local and state government grants, contract structures, and claiming procedures.
  • Technical Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with demonstrated experience analyzing complex financial data and preparing ad hoc reports.
  • Work Style: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, plan and prioritize tasks to meet strict grantor deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration across departments and with external grantors.
