We are seeking a skilled Grant Accountant to manage and oversee the financial activities associated with grant funds. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can ensure compliance with grant requirements and optimize financial processes.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the appropriate spending of grant funds.
- Generate, analyze, and report budget to actual performance for individual grants.
- Collaborate with program or finance staff to ensure all funding is appropriately spent.
- Communicate with accounting teams regarding changes to grant coding to ensure funds are being utilized and allocated appropriately.
- Maximize cash flow by developing processes and procedures for timely submission of grant collections and reports.
- Review and approve financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Ensure compliance with all financial grant requirements, including federal OMB regulations and specific grant requirements.
- Direct, train, mentor, and review the work of Grants Accountants.
- Oversee invoicing of site fees, technical assistance, and other grant match collections.
- Provide guidance to Financial Analysts in the development of AmeriCorps budgets, ensuring appropriate budget dollars by category and meeting match requirements.
- Review and approve match budgets to ensure match requirements are met and funding can be fully utilized.
- Provide input for program reforecasting.
- Review budget match forecasts to ensure any budget amendments are completed as needed.
- Work with staff in planning new programs and grant development.
- Accountable for revenue reporting, ensuring that revenue is recorded and classified according to GAAP and FASB requirements.
- Report accurate and timely revenue projections and actuals.
- Maintain net assets balances and report to management, identifying restricted vs unrestricted funds.
- Collaborate with accounting staff to create and maintain appropriate cost allocations.
- Complete required tasks for year-end audit and other financial monitoring.
- Perform special projects or assignments as directed.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Federal and state grant experience
- Experience with government and private grant reporting and fund accounting
- Knowledge of 2 CFR, FASB, and GAAP
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Oracle NetSuite experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Proactive, self-directed individual motivated to continually evaluate and improve processes and procedures.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, time management, and organization skills.
- Proven leadership skills.
Work Environment
This is a full-time remote position with the opportunity to work from the office in Minneapolis if desired. The team consists of four members: three grant accountants and one other individual. The interview process is led by the CFO/COO. The organization is a national nonprofit specializing in managing and scaling high-quality AmeriCorps programs.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $41.00/hr.
