Job description

Our Mission

The mission of Community Action Lehigh Valley is to improve the quality of life in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas by building communities in which all people have access to economic opportunity, the ability to pursue that opportunity, and a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

The Role

As our Grant Accountant, you’ll keep grant dollars organized, compliant, and ready to fuel real-world impact. This role exists to make sure every award is tracked cleanly—from setup to closeout—so programs can focus on people.

Key responsibilities include managing grant budgets and cost allocations, preparing invoices and financial reports, reconciling accounts, supporting audits/monitoring, and partnering with program teams to keep documentation timely and accurate.

Required qualifications/skills:

  • Mid-level accounting experience (grant or fund accounting strongly preferred)
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort with accounting systems
  • Knowledge of GAAP and compliance basics for restricted funding
  • Clear, friendly communication and sharp attention to detail

If you like tidy ledgers, clear rules, and work that matters, apply to be our Grant Accountant.

A Day That Adds Up

You’ll start onsite at 1337 East 5th Street in Bethlehem by checking what’s due: a report deadline here, an invoice question there. Mid-morning is for focused number time—cleaning up transactions, making sure support is in the right place, and keeping files audit-ready.

After lunch, you’ll hop into quick, practical conversations with program staff to clarify a charge or confirm backup (no jargon Olympics). The afternoon might include a calm review of month-end progress, a few thoughtful notes for leadership, and a plan for tomorrow—because closing the day with a tidy to-do list is its own kind of joy.

Benefits That Deliver

Medical, dental, and vision coverage (Community Action covers 90% of employee health care costs), plus comprehensive prescription plans. Free telemedicine with board-certified doctors and mental health professionals, and no-cost concierge services to help you navigate care.

Agency-paid life insurance and long-term disability; voluntary life insurance and short-term disability options.

401(k) retirement plan with matching and an annual agency contribution of up to 7%

Generous paid leave: 15 vacation days in year one (with more after 2nd and 5th anniversaries), 2 personal days annually, 9 sick days annually, and 10 observed holidays.
