Job summary

The Grand Jury Unit of the Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office seeks an experienced Assistant State's Attorney to review felony investigations and determine appropriate charges for presentation to the Grand Jury. Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Maryland Bar and in good standing.
• Minimum of three (3) years of criminal litigation experience, with felony prosecution preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Maryland Criminal Law, the Maryland Rules of Criminal Procedure, the Maryland Rules of Evidence, and constitutional law.
• Experience evaluating criminal investigations, reviewing investigative reports and evidence, and making legally sound charging recommendations.
• Strong legal research, analytical reasoning, and legal writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Review felony investigations submitted by law enforcement agencies.
• Evaluate police reports, witness statements, warrants, and forensic/digital evidence.
• Meet with investigators to review evidence and identify additional needs.
• Apply Maryland statutes and constitutional law to determine charges.
• Make independent charging decisions based on sufficiency and standards.
• Prepare charging documents, indictments, and related pleadings.
• Present cases before the Grand Jury.
• Advise investigators on probable cause and evidentiary issues.
• Review warrants for legal sufficiency and constitutional compliance.
• Maintain case documentation and update case management systems.
• Appear in District and Circuit Court for bond and preliminary hearings.
