Job summary

The Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office seeks a senior Assistant State's Attorney for the Homicide Unit to lead complex homicide prosecutions from investigatory stage through trial, sentencing, and post-conviction matters.

You will provide legal guidance to law enforcement, work with forensic experts, and argue before juries in high-profile cases, while maintaining strict ethical standards and close communication with victims' families.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Maryland Bar in good standing.
• Minimum of five (5) years of criminal litigation experience, with substantial felony trial experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience serving as lead counsel in jury trials involving serious felony offenses.
• Thorough knowledge of Maryland criminal law, criminal procedure, constitutional law, and the Maryland Rules of Evidence.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing homicide investigations, police reports, witness statements, forensic evidence, medical examiner findings, digital evidence, and other materials to determine prosecutorial merit.
• Providing legal guidance to law enforcement during investigations, including search warrants, charging decisions, subpoenas, and evidentiary issues.
• Reviewing Maryland statutes and case law to evaluate investigations and charges.
• Preparing homicide and major felony cases for prosecution through all phases of proceedings.
• Conducting legal research and preparing pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and warrants.
• Interviewing victims, witnesses, officers, and experts for court preparation.
• Maintaining communication with victims' families regarding case developments and resources.
• Representing the State at bond hearings, preliminary hearings, motions, suppression hearings, jury trials, and sentencing.
