Job summary

Los Alamos National Security LLC is seeking graduate students in STEM fields for a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary national laboratory environment.

This position not only supports research efforts contributing to the Laboratory's national security mission but also fosters independent and collaborative work on computational science challenges.

Job description

What You Will Do

This opportunity is intended for graduate students with interests in physics, applied mathematics, engineering, computer science, or related technical disciplines. Students will gain hands‑on experience in a multidisciplinary national laboratory environment while contributing to research that supports the Laboratory's national security mission.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated interest in computational science, physics, mathematics, engineering, or related STEM fields.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in numerical modeling, simulation, scientific computing, or computational research.

Education Requirements:

Graduate Students: Must be enrolled in an accredited graduate program in a STEM-related field.

Desired Qualifications
  • Coursework or project experience in computational physics, fluid dynamics, mechanics, applied mathematics, or computer science.
  • Experience working in a laboratory, research, or team-based technical environment.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments or high-performance computing systems.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and enthusiasm for scientific research.
Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

No Clearance

Position does not require a security clearance.

Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
