Job summary

Alliant Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Graduate Transportation Engineer to grow under a licensed Professional Engineer while delivering roadway design projects for state, county, and local clients.

You will work with mentors to develop skills in geometric design, traffic engineering, and plan production, using MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD Civil 3D. This entry‑level role focuses on learning and delivering high‑quality work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) or actively pursuing degree.
• 0–4 years of Civil Engineering experience.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel).
• Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
• Exposure to roadway design/traffic engineering via internships or coursework preferred.
• Motivated to learn, take initiative, and deliver high‑quality work.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Geometric design of roadways, bikeways, and pedestrian facilities.
• Final road design detailing typical sections, superelevation, guardrails.
• Traffic engineering: signing, pavement marking, traffic plans.
• Produce clear, complete plan sets for construction.
• Cost estimating: quantities and historical unit prices.
• Use MicroStation/OpenRoads/AutoCAD Civil 3D to draft designs.
• Coordinate with project teams for successful delivery.

The Impact You'll Have:

As a Graduate Transportation Engineer, you will work with a licensed Professional Engineer focused on helping you grow your skills while delivering roadway design projects for state, county, and local clients. You will be involved in all aspects of transportation design and will work closely with mentors and peers invested in the growth and success of your career.

Responsibilities:

• Geometric Design - developing typical sections, alignments and profiles for roadways, bikeways, and pedestrian facilities.
• Final Road Design - determining and detailing typical sections, superelevation, guardrail, and other roadway components.
• Traffic Engineering - developing signing, pavement marking, and maintenance of traffic plans.
• Plans - producing clear and complete plan sets for construction.
• Cost Estimating - preparing quantities and researching historic unit prices to estimate construction costs.
• Utilize design software such as Microstation/Geopak, OpenRoads Designer, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D to draft, model designs, and prepare plans.
• Coordinate with project teams to support the successful delivery of transportation projects for state, county, and municipal clients.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or related engineering field), or actively pursing degree
• 0 - 4 years of experience in Civil Engineering
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
• Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred
• Exposure to roadway design, traffic engineering, or transportation construction through internships, coursework, or professional experience preferred
• Motivated to learn, take initiative, and contribute to high-quality project deliverables
• Strong written and oral communication skills

The base pay for this position is expected to be in the range of $70,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
