Job Summary

The TAMIU Department of Biology & Chemistry is seeking a highly motivated, part‑time Research Assistant for an NSF grant‑funded graduate research project focused on biochemical and molecular studies of yeast pathogenicity. This role is intended for a graduate student enrolled in the MS Biology program who is interested in gaining hands‑on biomedical research experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research and collect data using complex techniques and laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with data management and perform basic statistical analyses.
  • Develop assessment and evaluation tools.
  • Perform experiments and analyze data.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in regional scientific conferences and contribute to peer‑reviewed publications upon successful completion of assigned projects.
Minimum Requirements
  • Enrolled at least half‑time (3 credit hours per semester) in TAMIU’s MS Biology program.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Meet all requirements of TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
Preferred Experience and Education
  • BS degree with a GPA above 3.0.
  • Undergraduate research assistant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency with personal computer workstations and common software applications.

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required; subject to funding and/or need.
Pay and Security

$18.50 per hour for up to 19 hours weekly. All positions are security‑sensitive; applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation and employment is contingent upon credential verification as required by institutional procedures.
